Donation & Disposal Terms
Bulky’s Donation Acceptance & Disposal Policy
Last Updated: September 11, 2025
We want your items to have the best chance at a second life. Our Providers are encouraged to donate or recycle whenever possible, and we make every effort to prioritize reuse over disposal. However, we cannot guarantee that every item will be accepted for donation or recycling. Final outcomes depend on factors such as condition, safety, local facility availability, or charity acceptance. In some cases, items may need to be responsibly disposed of.
By using this Website and/or the booking Platform, you agree to the Terms of this Policy. These Donation & Disposal Terms are incorporated by reference into Bulky’s Website Terms of Use and Service Terms. Capitalized terms (such as “Website,” “Platform,” and “Providers”) have the same meaning as in those documents.
1. Purpose of These Terms
These Donation & Disposal Terms explain how item acceptance, donation, recycling, and disposal are handled when you schedule a pickup through our Website and the third-party booking Platform. Their purpose is to give you clarity on what outcomes are possible and to set realistic expectations about the process.
2. Donation Acceptance
We work hard to prioritize donation whenever possible. However, item acceptance is ultimately determined by:
- The condition of the item (clean, functional, free from damage or infestation).
- Local health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Charity-specific rules and current capacity.
- Practical limitations such as accessibility or required disassembly.
Meeting these factors increases the chance of donation but does not guarantee acceptance.
3. Donation Receipts
If your items are successfully donated, a donation receipt may be available upon request from the receiving charity. However, receipts cannot be guaranteed, as they depend on:
- Whether the charity accepts the items.
- The charity’s own donation receipt policies.
- The Provider’s ability to deliver items directly to a qualified charity.
We recommend requesting a receipt from your Provider at the time of service, but please note that neither Bulky nor the Platform can guarantee that receipts will be provided or accepted for tax purposes.
4. When Donation Isn’t Feasible
While our Providers are encouraged to prioritize donation or recycling whenever feasible, donation cannot be guaranteed. Common reasons include:
- Excessive wear, damage, or contamination.
- Infestation (e.g., pests, mold, bedbugs).
- Safety or accessibility concerns during pickup.
- Local charity refusal or lack of capacity.
- Limited nearby recycling facilities.
- Legal or regulatory restrictions on certain items.
5. Possible Outcomes
Depending on condition and local availability, your items may be handled in one of three ways:
- Donation: Accepted by a qualified charity partner.
- Recycling: Sent to an appropriate recycling facility, if available.
- Disposal: Taken to a landfill or transfer station, in compliance with local requirements, when donation or recycling is not possible.
6. Special Conditions
Some items are subject to stricter or special handling rules:
- Mattresses & soft goods: Often subject to tighter restrictions; many facilities decline them unless in excellent condition.
- Hazardous or soiled items: Cannot be donated and may require regulated disposal.
- Disassembly & access: Providers may decline items that cannot be safely removed without major alterations.
7. Providers & the Platform
Pickups are performed by independent service providers (“Providers”) arranged through the third-party booking Platform. Bulky does not employ, supervise, or control Providers. For details on booking, cancellations, liability, or claims, please see our Service Terms.
